As the leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party (LP), heightens, a faction of the party in Bauchi State has pledged support to the Julius Abure-led national leadership, insisting that he remains the authentic National Chairman of the party.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by State Chairman, Comrade Mohammed Sabitu Aliyu and Idi Danladi, Secretary, made available to journalists in Bauchi.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Bauchi State Labour Party headed by Comrade Mohammed Sabitu Aliyu and all state executives, have been drawn by the write up by so called Rev Joshua Sunday, through media publications of 31st August 2025, in which he claimed former zonal leadership of and to some extent, Bauchi State, as well as discrediting the Labour Party as a whole by misinterpreting the Supreme Court judgement.
“Ordinarily, the State Labour Party executive would have ignored the statement, looking at who the so-called Rev. Joshua Sunday is, but for the benefit of the public, the Bauchi State Labour Party leadership wants to correct the wrongs and lies.
“The Supreme Court judgement confirmed and validated the leadership of Julius Abure as authentic National Chairman of the great Labour Party, because it said that the status quo is to be maintained, hence, even the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) maintains Julius Abure as the Leader of Labour Party, similarly, the National Secretary, Alh. Umar Faruk.
“Rev. Joshua Sunday is nothing in the Labour Party, just seeking relevance, crumbs and hungry to grab leadership.
“The so-called Rev Joshua Sunday is acting alone; furthermore, he is a featherweight politically, and he has never been a zonal leader in Bauchi South Senatorial District, you may wish to verify.
“The leadership of Bauchi State Labour Party and wards executive of Labour Party are fully loyal, and with unquestionable support to the leadership of Julius Abure, who is constitutionally elected in Nnewi during the national convention.
“Labour Party in Bauchi State is growing from strength to strength as indicated in the membership validation that took place sometime ago, with all members united with a common purpose of moving the party forward ever, backwards never.
“No doubt Labour Party has been and is the hope of the common man by extension all Nigerians, as indicated through the massive support by registered voters in previous elections.
“The Labour Party leadership and indeed all bona fide members of Bauchi State are solidly behind Julius Abure and his executive, who are capable of leading the party to victory come 2027, which they have started a good work by opening doors for all intending aspirants to come and vie for various positions of choice from presidential to councillorship.”
