Bauchi State Ministry of Education has appealed to communities across the State to take full ownership of the public schools established in their areas.
The ministry stressed that, “Community participation in safeguarding these schools is not only essential but necessary for sustaining the progress being made in the education sector.”
One of the persistent challenges affecting schools is the vandalism and theft of school property. In many cases, this happens due to a lack of community oversight. When communities are involved and invested, schools are safer, better maintained, and more respected.
The Ministry, in a statement signed by the Information Officer, Jalaludeen Usman, declared that, “A school does not belong to government alone — it belongs to the community it serves. Everyone has a role to play in keeping these institutions secured.”
According to the Ministry, “Residents should remain vigilant, support school administrators, and report any suspicious activities or individuals attempting to damage or steal school property.”
“The government, under the leadership of the State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, continues to invest in education — building and renovating classrooms, providing furniture and learning materials, and supporting teacher training. But protecting these investments requires partnership with the people,” It stated.
The Ministry also reminded School heads and education managers of their responsibility to serve with integrity, warning that, “Anyone found to be complicit in the destruction or theft of school property will face appropriate consequences. There will be no exemptions.”
It stressed that, “Education remains one of the top priorities of this administration. It is the foundation of progress. Communities are therefore encouraged to stand as custodians of every school around them. Let us work together to secure our schools and protect the future of our children.”
