Bauchi govt to construct hall, additional hostels at NYSC camp

IN its efforts to provide a conducive atmosphere for corps members posted to the state for the mandatory one year service, Bauchi State Government has promised to expand the multi-purpose hall and upgrade the administrative block at the Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Wailo, Ganjuwa local government of the state.

The disclosure was by the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed, on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2019 Batch C, stream 6 2 Corps members posted to the state.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Hamisu Shuaibu Shira, pledged that the project will be embarked on before the end of this year adding that the ongoing construction of two additional hostels will also be completed in a good time.

Bala Mohammed added that “Bauchi State holds dear the aims and objectives of the NYSC scheme and this informs our conscious policy of sustained upgrading of facilities at the NYSC Orientation camp which is the first point of call for Corps members deployed to the state.”

He added that “This fundamentally is to create the ambience for conducive training and learning. In this respect, we will continue to strengthen the scheme so as to increase its capacity to deliver on its mandate of fostering the bond of cohesion and integration.”

While speaking earlier, the State NYSC Coordinator, Shehu Bashir, explained that by the close of registration, a total of 939 corps members including 498 males and 441 females were registered at the camp.

He also said that during the orientation course, the corps members will undergo at the camp is the foundation of NYSC programmes meant to prepare them adequately to confront the challenges of the service year.

Shehu Bashir, therefore, urged the youth to participate in all camp activities noting that they are designed to provide them with a forum for cultural and social interaction among themselves.
