Bauchi govt commences distribution of CBN fertiliser

In bid to prove critics wrong, Bauchi State Government is set to commence distribution of the 70 trucks of assorted fertilizer donated to it by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for farmers.

It is expected that the fertiliser will be distributed to selected poor farmers in the 323 political wards across the state as disclosed by the Distribution Committee, chaired by the Emir of Jama’are, Alhaji Nuhu Ahmed Wabi.

He explained on Tuesday after the meeting of the Committee that arrangements have been completed to distribute the 42,000 bags of fertilizers free to farmers in all nooks and crannies of Bauchi State.

Nuhu Ahmed Wabi said that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security donated 70 trucks of fertiliser to Bauchi farmers as part of efforts to boost farming activities in the state.

He also said that the Committee will take the commodity to farmers in all the Polling units in the 20 local Government areas of the state.

The Emir also said that all communities, labour unions, Religious organisations, women’s groups, youth groups, and many bodies will receive the free fertilizer.

He commended Governor Bala Mohammed and the federal government for the gesture which he said would go a long way in supporting farmers at the grassroots.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to make the best use of the fertilizer to raise the level of agricultural production and ensure food security in the state since the State is blessed with abundant land, human and natural resources which if properly harnessed and utilise will help towards the economic development of the state.

The traditional ruler expressed gratitude to the state government for finding them worthy to serve on the committee and promised to ensure justice and equity in the distribution process.

It be recalled that when the committee was inaugurated, some of the committee’s terms of reference included designing criteria for the selection of genuine farmers and farmers’ associations across the state, ensuring fair distribution of the assorted fertiliser to the benefiting farmers, and submitting a report to the state government within three weeks.
