Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has flagged off the construction of a 58.4km at N8 billion road that is to link Alkaleri and Tafawa Balewa local government Areas of the state in an effort to further open up the state and promote social-economic growth.
The road stretch is expected to benefit communities in Yalwan Duguri to Badaran Dutse, Birim-Bajama to Kumbala, Kundak-Wurno to Burga which are between Tafawa-Balewa and Alkaleri LGAs.
While speaking at the beginning of the project which is in Burga town of Tafawa Balewa, the Governor revealed that already, over N4 billion has been released to the contractors for the project .
Bala Mohammed also said that the award for the construction of the road was in line with the policy thrust of his administration of providing infrastructure that have a direct bearing on the lives of the teeming populace.
According to him, adequate government’s attention will continue to be given to facilitate the timely completion of the project and acknowledged the courage and endurance demonstrated by the communities for patiently waiting for this long to see the day of the execution of the project.
The Governor, therefore, reaffirmed that, in an effort to remain focused and committed to its campaign promises, his administration will embark on meaningful projects that have socio-economic impacts on the citizens of the state.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Works and Transport, Engineer Stephen Abubakar said that the road when completed would increase accesses to social amenities and other opportunities associated with road transport to the communities.
He explained that the road was designed to have a length of 58.4km with a total width of 10.3m which comprise a carriageway of 7.3m and 1.5m shoulders on each side.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the road would be constructed with 4 bridges, 45 box culverts and 70 pipe culverts of different sizes and will be completed within 24 dry months.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Tafawa-Balewa Local Government Council, Barrister Kefas Magaji who spoke on behalf of the benefiting communities, described the gesture as a welcome development and assured the Governor of their support for the success of his administration.
Kefas Magaji who said that the area had suffered neglect in terms of development by successive administrations in the state commended the effort of the present PDP led administration for the actualization of the project calling for more developmental projects for the people of the area.
Some communities representatives who spoke at the occasion praised the efforts of the government and commended the Governor for imitating the project which they opined will boost their economic growth when completed.
