Bauchi assures of proper, judicious use of AGILE project funds

The Bauchi State Government has assured that the $5 million received for the implementation of the Adolescent Girls Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project will be used judiciously.

This funding is part of the larger $80 million provided by the World Bank through the Federal Government of Nigeria for the full execution of the project.

State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Jamila Muhammad Dahiru, made the announcement during a quarterly state steering committee meeting held in Bauchi on Tuesday.

The meeting, organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the AGILE project, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to utilizing the funds effectively to achieve the project’s goals of making basic education more accessible to adolescent girls.

“The AGILE project is a comprehensive approach designed to address critical challenges faced by adolescent girls, which limit their ability to complete secondary school,” said Dahiru.

She urged the committee to adhere to the terms and guidelines of the project for the successful implementation of the state’s work plan.

The State Coordinator of the AGILE project, Alhaji Ali Sule Gar, also presented the 2024 approved work plan, outlining the program’s three key components: creating safe and accessible learning spaces, constructing and rehabilitating classrooms, and providing essential teaching materials.

These components aim to create a conducive learning environment for girls and foster educational empowerment.
