Bauchi Project Management Unit (SPMU) of Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL), in collaboration with the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), have joined forces for a tree planting exercise at the Shehu Wunti Housing Estate, Bauchi, as the rainy season sets in.
During the event, State Project Coordinator Dr Ibrahim Kabir emphasised the importance of trees for the environment, highlighting their role in mitigating issues like soil erosion, flooding, and desert encroachment.
The Project Coordinator urged residents to nurture the planted trees for their growth and emphasised the benefits of tree planting, including improved air quality and environmental cooling, especially crucial during hot weather exacerbated by deforestation for charcoal, firewood, and timber.
In his own remarks, Dr Mahmud Bose, Director General of BASEPA, said that the introduction of the “One Person, One Tree” initiative is to encourage tree planting across the state.
Mahmud Bose pledged the agency’s commitment to sustaining the programme and urged community support for its success, emphasising the importance of proper waste management for a cleaner environment.
The community leader, Mallam Yunusa Yusuf, expressed gratitude for the initiative, recognising its timely relevance, and pledged his community’s support for green initiatives like ACReSAL’s Bauchi Green Project, emphasising their role in environmental preservation and life-saving endeavours.
On his part, Mallam Babangida Yusuf highlighted the eternal rewards of such efforts from a religious perspective and prayed for the success of the initiative, as contained in a statement by the Bauchi ACReSAL Communications Unit.
