Popular Nigerian comedian AY Makun has denied claims that he regrets the collapse of his marriage to his estranged wife, Mabel, dismissing reports of a possible reconciliation as false and defamatory.
In a post on Instagram, AY described the rumours as “deliberately manipulative” and warned that he would pursue legal action against blogs and individuals circulating the narratives.
“My attention has been drawn to a series of false, incessant, and insensitive social media posts suggesting that I am in a state of regret and seeking reconciliation in my past relationship,” he wrote.
“These publications are deliberately manipulative, calculated to mislead the public, and designed solely for traffic and engagement. For clarity, I have never authorized or made any such statements,” he added.
The comedian further stressed that if he wished to communicate his personal position, he had “the platform, the reach, and the credibility to do so directly, not through faceless blogs and rumour-driven platforms.”
He issued a final warning to rumour peddlers, saying: “Moving forward, the appropriate legal measures will be instituted against individuals, blogs, or platforms that continue to publish, promote, or circulate these defamatory stories. Enough of the lies.”
AY and Mabel’s 20-year relationship publicly broke down in early 2024 after Mabel alleged long-term mental abuse and confirmed their separation.
By April, the couple formally announced their split, pledging to prioritise their children while moving forward separately.
