Autonomy: INEC expected to begin LGA elections conduct — APC chieftain, Emami

A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Ayirimi Emami says following the judgment of the Supreme Court on local government autonomy, it is expected that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will soon begin to conduct elections at the third tier of government.

This is just as the Warri Kingdom chief averred that with the granting of financial autonomy to local government councils, the challenge of insecurity in the country will abate.

Chief Emami made the remarks while addressing a large gathering of APC supporters at Ogunu, Warri, ahead of Saturday’s local government election in the state.

He commended President Bola Tinubu’s ingenuity in granting financial autonomy to local governments.

“I am satisfied with the Supreme Court’s decision to grant financial autonomy to local governments.

“This will help reduce insecurity in the state. We urge the government to provide full autonomy to local governments.

“President Bola Tinubu’s decision to grant financial autonomy to local governments represents a significant achievement.

“This development will facilitate the effective functioning of the three arms of government.

“Additionally, it is expected that INEC will soon assume the responsibility of conducting elections at the local government level,” he noted.

Chief Emami further urged all residents of Warri South to fully participate in the Saturday election by voting for Prince Francis Yonwuren and all APC candidates.

“Everyone must come out en masse on Saturday to exercise their right to vote,” he charged.

Earlier, after being presented with the APC flags before the crowd of supporters, the local government chairmanship candidate of the APC, Prince Francis Yonwuren, his vice chairmanship candidate, Pastor Kinsley Omonigho, and councillorship candidates, Hon. Paul Ojegba of Bowen Ward and Hon. Tejiri Okorefe went, all went around different wards at Agbarah-Warri, Ekurede-Urhobo, Ogunu and Ugbuwangue to campaign and woo the electorate for the Saturday poll.
