Two nationals of Benin Republic, Nunayo Sunayo and Kosoko Rafiu, have been arrested by the police in Lagos State for vehicle theft. The two arrested suspects reportedly specialized in sneaking into Nigeria and stealing choice vehicles, which they then took to their country and sold to yet-to-be-identified buyers. The spokesperson for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest of the suspects to the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday. It was gathered that the suspects had, as usual, stolen a vehicle and were escaping through the Lagos-Badagry Expressway when they were arrested by policemen from the Tradefair Divisional Police Station. Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed that "On 06/08/2024 at about 12:00 hours, while on special duty for the ongoing protest, the DPO, Tradefair Division, received information that one Toyota Corolla vehicle was coming towards their direction at high speed in a suspicious manner." He continued, "He immediately alerted his personnel for a stop and search, and when the suspects reached their point, they sped off. They were given a hot chase and eventually flagged down along Abule Ado, where the suspects, one Kosoko Rafiu and Nunayo Sunayo, were both arrested with the stolen vehicle in their possession." The police spokesperson also added that "They were taken down to the station, and investigations revealed that they are from the Republic of Benin and specialize in stealing cars from Nigeria. One Toyota Corolla car with the registration number JJJ 471 EJ and various charms were recovered from them." According to the police spokesperson, the investigation is ongoing to arrest other criminals connected with the crimes of the arrested suspects.
