Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State has presented a budget of N471.134 billion before the State House of Assembly as a proposal for the year 2025. Presenting budget tagged "Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability,” on Monday, the Governor said the budget proposal reflects the state government commitment to solidify past achievements and ensure the continued growth and development of Plateau State. He pointed out that the total proposed budget size consists of a recurrent component of N201.522 billion only representing 43.46% of the total budget size and capital budget estimate of N258,852,660,277.00) only, representing 56.54% of the total budget. Governor Muftwang narrated that the 2025 Budget aims to reaffirm the government's commitment to the peace and prosperity of Plateau State, having laid a solid foundation adding that the desire of his administration was to consolidate the past gains recorded and rekindle it's vision towards transforming and revitalizing the State Projects and Programs across all sectors of the economy. The Governor who said the state and the country in general has been going through numerous challenges in recent years, especially in the area of insecurity and economic recession, among others added that it becomes incumbent on the state government to strategise and, in collaboration with security agents and the citizens of the state, to address the situation. ALSO READ: 2025 budget: Gov Aliyu allocates 25% to education, 15% to health "Consequent upon this, Mr. Speaker, today I am glad to inform this honourable house that, with the support of the security Agencies and Legislative interventions, checkpoints have been mounted across the strategic flash points in the state with the citizens encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement of any individual or groups to relevant authorities for quick intervention, and to ensure they live in peace with one another irrespective of any individual difference or diversities". The Governor further disclosed that the proposed budget estimate for 2025 is higher than the 2024 approved estimate with N156,278,944,988.00 adding this was as result of the administration's committment to transforming and executing projects and programmes that are people-oriented and have a direct impact on the lives of Plateau state. Given the breakdown of the budget on sectoral basis, the governor disclosed that finance and economics got the highest allocation with the sum of N57,309 billion to pay all counterpart funding and also execute finance and economic-related projects and programs in the state adding that the amount represents 8.24% of the capital estimate. Governor Muftwang further highlighted that the administration allocated the sum of (N52,477.410 billion to education adding that the amount will enable the sub-sector to transform and revamp all education-related projects in the state, cutting across Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary, as the case may be. He therefore reassured the House of Assembly that his administration remains steadfast in its commitment to transforming and repositioning Plateau State for Peace and Prosperity.
