Former National Chairman, South West, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eddy Olafeso, has vowed to lead protest against the party's candidate, Agboola Ajayi, if he fails to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of the state. Olafeso who stated this in Akure, the state capital, promised to spearhead protest against Ajayi if he does not fulfill his electoral promises within two years of taking over as the dovernor of the state. He described the eight year administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state as a waste, saying governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has failed woefully with no significant achievements during his ten months in office. He assured that an Ajayi-led government would prioritize the needs of the people if elected in the upcoming governorship election on November 16, this year, saying PDP remains the only party to rescue the state and the country from all the current challenges. "The party came into existence with the need to unite the country and explore the possibilities of its vast resources and the multifarious opportunities available to our people,” Olafeso said. According to him, Ajayi stands for a movement towards the rebuilding the state for a promising future, saying the current administration led by Aiyedatiwa has lost focus for good goverance, urging the people of the state to vote him out. He said, “I want the people of Ondo State to join the opposition party, the PDP, against the lacklustre, non-performing government of the APC that has taken eight years out of our lives and rendered us completely hopeless. The people should decide by voting out the APC in Saturday’s election.” On the party’s preparedness for the Saturday's election, Olafeso said that the PDP has the backing of the national and zonal bodies and has done excellently well in touring all the local governments in the state. Olafeso accused the Aiyedatiwa-led government of squandering over N130b received during his administration within the last 10 months. He noted that the state had not distributed the palliatives received from the federal government to the people of the state, but said the state government are repackaging them for the coming election. “What has the government done with the N130 billion received in the past ten to eleven months? This administration has rendered the people hopeless. "The reality is that they have weaponized poverty. They are re-bagging the palliatives received from the federal government, putting their pictures on them to be shared with the people on election day. "Why on earth will they wait until election day to share rice and garri worth 10,000 naira with the people?” he questioned. He however, implored Ondo residents to vote their conscience and take correct electoral decisions, and said “the people should collect whatever they are given during the election by APC and m vote them out. "The greatest lesson you will teach somebody in power who is corrupt and not doing what is right is to take what belongs to you and do the right thing. “They can’t force you to vote for them after you have taken whatever they wanted to give you that they should have given to you in the first instance. "Nobody can say don’t take whatever they want to offer; but the truth is that you should vote your conscience by taking correct electoral decisions.” NIGERIAN TRIBUNE
