Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, attended the funeral of 15 villagers slain in a violent attack by unidentified gunmen in Mera, Augie Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement signed by Yahaya Danjada Arg, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Deputy Governor on Friday, Tafida pledged the government’s support for the grieving families and a commitment to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The funeral, held amidst sombre scenes, was also attended by high-ranking officials, including the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammadu Mera, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, senior officers from the Nigerian Army, the State Security Service, and other governmental security agencies, who gathered to show solidarity with the community.
Representing the Kebbi State Governor, Tafida extended condolences on behalf of the government, expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy and vowing to work closely with security agencies to ensure justice and prevent further bloodshed.
The Emir of Argungu, reflecting on the distressing loss, urged the community to remain united and called on security agencies to strengthen their operations, reassuring the people of their right to peace and security.
The gathering concluded with a call for strengthened vigilance and resilience in Kebbi’s communities, along with prayers for peace and divine protection.
