Co-founder of TedPrime hub and 2020 African Union Teacher Prize winner, Mr Olalekan Adeeko, is redefining how technology is taught and understood in Africa.

By creating tech tutorials in Yoruba, an indigenous language in South-West, Nigeria Adeeko has made complex subjects like data analysis and AI accessible to a wider audience, particularly in communities where indigenous languages are more widely spoken than English.

His innovative approach has not only gained him, large followers, online but also earned him the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award, highlighting his contribution to democratising tech education.

Adeeko’s tech content covers practical skills such as Excel, AI tools, and data literacy, resonating deeply with people across Nigeria and beyond.

By delivering lessons on tech subjects in Yoruba, he breaks down the language barrier that often prevents many from fully engaging with digital tools.

Speaking on the innovation, Adeeko, who is a computer science graduate from Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, pointed out that,  “The goal is to make technology accessible to everyone, regardless of the language of communication.”

He explained, “By teaching in Yoruba, I’m able to reach those who might struggle with English-based resources, empowering them to use tech in their everyday lives.”
Adeeko’s success in this new approach to teaching is reflected in the number of audience as followers across his social media handles.

With over 100,000 followers as of late, Adeeko has become a go-to source for tech education not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

His influence is also evident in how these lessons are not just helping individuals but are also being used by educators and professionals to improve their own digital literacy and integrate tech into their work environments.

That is why his MVP award is to recognise his commitment to sharing expertise and making technology accessible to everyone including those in underserved communities.

“So for me, he declared, “the MVP award is a testament to the power of inclusive education,” adding, that, “When people can learn in their native language, they gain confidence and can more easily grasp complex concepts like AI and data analysis.”

Adeeko’s work is part of a larger movement to bring technology closer to local communities through culturally relevant content. His Yoruba tech tutorials are a model of how indigenous languages can play a key role in digital education, breaking down barriers to access and understanding.

With the rise of AI and the increasing demand for digital skills, Adeeko’s work ensures that more people, regardless of their language background, can participate in the digital economy.

“It’s not just about learning technology; it’s about empowering people to use it to solve real problems in their communities,” Adeeko explains.

As he continues in this journey, his vision remains clear: to make sure that the digital revolution leaves no one behind, especially those, who have traditionally been excluded due to language barriers in Africa.
