The Ondo State Chapter of the Assembly of Traditional Religion Worshippers (ATRWO) have commended the executive governors of Oyo, Osun, Ogun and Lagos, Seyi Makinde, Ademola Adeleke, Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, respectively, for declaring Wednesday, 20th August 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of Isese Day.
This thoughtful gesture, according to the coordinator of the ATRWOS, Chief Adewale Oso, in a statement made available to journalists by the publicity secretary of the group, Ondo state, Prince Ojopagogo Adeyinka, is a landmark recognition of the cultural and traditional values of our people.
“By officially setting aside a day to honour Isese, the governors have further demonstrated their commitment to inclusivity, cultural preservation, and respect for the diverse religious heritage of Yorubaland.
“We therefore call on other governors in the Southwest and neighbouring states, particularly in Ondo, Ekiti, Kogi and Kwara states, to emulate this noble idea by officially recognising and declaring Isese day as a public holiday. Such a step will not only strengthen cultural identity but also promote unity and peace within our communities”.
In his address to the adherents of Yoruba Traditional Religion, the coordinator of the group appealed to the leadership of Traditional Worshippers across Yorubaland to formally recognise and decorate Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Sanwolu of Lagos and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun as the Cultural and Traditional Icon of the Year in appreciation of their uncommon respect for our traditions.
Araba Oso also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the ongoing constitutional amendment considers the activities of the Ifa religion and also declare a national holiday for the IFA festival.
The Assembly of Traditional Religion Worshippers, Ondo State, reiterated its unwavering commitment to the promotion and preservation of our ancestral heritage while fostering mutual respect among all faiths.
