At least 15 people lost their lives on Saturday in a road crash involving three vehicles in southeast Mexico, according to local authorities.
The accident occurred on the highway linking the cities of Mérida and Campeche when a cargo truck overturned, colliding with a car and another truck carrying construction workers, Yucatán state’s security secretariat confirmed.
“Fifteen people were confirmed dead at the scene,” including the cargo truck driver, the agency said in a statement on social media. Two other victims were taken to the hospital with injuries.
The tragedy marks Mexico’s third mass-casualty road incident in less than a week, highlighting growing concerns over transport safety in the country.
On Monday, a freight train smashed into a double-decker bus in central Mexico, killing 10 and leaving 41 others injured.
Barely 48 hours later, a truck transporting nearly 50,000 litres of gas overturned and exploded in Mexico City. That blast claimed 13 lives and left dozens with severe burns, according to an updated toll released on Saturday.
