ASUU petitions IGP over kidnapped member

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi chapter, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over the kidnap of a member of the union, Christie Agbulu.

The union also appealed to the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to assist the union in rescuing the lady, who was kidnapped over two weeks ago in Lokoja, the state capital.

Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, chairman of the ASUU-FUAM, Makurdi branch, Bemgba Anjembe, said Agbulu, a lecturer 1 of the department of Biological Sciences travelled to Lokoja from Makurdi and was abducted by kidnappers immediately she got to Lokoja .

The union expressed worries over the development, saying there had nort been contact with the kidnappers immediately after the ransom demanded was paid.

He said the abductors had used cell phone of the victim and demanded for a ransom of N150, 000 to free her, followibg which the money was paid into the bank account number of the victim.

The kidnappers later used Agbulu’s ATM card to withdraw the money .

Anjembe however added that since the withdrawal was made the union members have not heard anything from the abductors, stressing that the victim was yet to be released.

He also said efforts to get the victim released thrrough the involvement of the police had not yielded any result.

The union leader said, “On November 30, 2016 we were in Lokoja and met with the police on that day and we were assured that something was being done, the following day we went back to the Police ‘A’ Division Lokoja and they reassured us that they were in control of the situation and would soon find her.

“But today it is almost three weeks our colleague was abducted and there is no iota of information about her whereabouts, even the abductor no long call us. We were constrained to petition the Inspector General of Police on the 5th of December, 2016 over this ugly situation to which no response has been received”

The union leaders therefore appealed to the security agencies and governor Yahaya Bello who is the chief security officer of the state to do every thing possible to rescue the innocent woman.
