The leadership of the Young Progressive Nigerlites Association has commended the Niger State Government for the crisis management it exemplified during the recent #EndBadGovernance protest that erupted across the country.
The Chairman of the Association, Haruna Ismaila Musa, stated this in a press statement signed and made available to journalists on Wednesday in Minna.
According to the statement, the Chairman of the Assot, Haruna Isma’ila Musa, specifically commended the State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago,-led administration in the state for the proactive measures taken that had ensured the protection of the lives and properties of the residents of the state in accordance with the oath of office taken by the governor.
He added that during the nationwide protests, business owners and innocent citizens were gripped by fear of uncertainties as hoodlums were all ready to exploit the situation to loot and steal from innocent citizens their hard-earned valuables, emphasising that due to the government’s proactive measures, these criminal elements were unable to operate, and business owners as well as residents, who were initially apprehensive to open their shops due to safety concerns, resumed their normal lawful activities.
“Before the protests, the Niger State Government implemented several measures to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerlites.
Notable initiatives included the sales of food items from the state’s food reserve at subsidised rates, providing significant relief during a challenging period and highlighting the government’s dedication to its citizens’ well-being, particularly the most vulnerable.”
Furthermore, the government’s engagement in statewide public consultations through a widely attended town hall meeting demonstrated its willingness to listen to its people’s concerns. This open-door policy fostered inclusivity and transparency, enabling citizens to actively participate in the decision-making process.
“Additionally, the government’s recent announcement of a wage award for civil servants, payment of long-awaited leave grants, and payment of gratuities to retirees has been met with widespread appreciation.
These gestures, according to him, underscore the administration’s commitment to recognising the hard work and dedication of its public servants and ensuring their financial security.”
The statement was read in part.”To this end, we commend the governor and his team, and we pray that God will continue to give him the wisdom to tackle the huge tasks and responsibilities ahead.
“We also urge the governor to ensure proper monitoring and evaluation of the numerous ongoing road constructions and other projects in the state,” the statement maintained.
