Raving disc jockey master, Iwuagwu Patricia Ebere, popularly known as DJ Commissioner Wysei, has debunked the news doing the rounds over her remand in the Kirikiri Correctional Facility by the Magistrate Court at Eti-Osa for allegedly assaulting police officers in Lagos.
An unconfirmed report gathered that the State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this development on his X handle, stating that the DJ faced charges of assaulting officers, resisting arrest, and obstructing them in the discharge of their duties.
“For assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, and obstructing police officers in the discharge of their duties, Iwuagwu Ebere, aged 29, popularly known as Commissioner DJ Wysei, has been remanded by the court in Kirikiri Correctional Facility until May 8, 2024, while her bouncers who aided and abetted her were remanded in Ikoyi Correctional Facility,” Hundeyin stated.
However, DJ Commissioner Wysei has denied these allegations, asserting that she was granted bail on the same day as her arrest.
Speaking with newsmen, she expressed her confusion and frustration over the false accusations and reports of her remand.
“The policewoman who claimed I assaulted her denied it in court, and the case was struck out,” DJ Commissioner Wysei stated.
She explained that the incident began when she arrested a promoter, who had caused her significant distress and owed her a substantial amount of money.
After the promoter’s wife begged for leniency, she accepted an offer to settle the matter out of court, prioritising her brand’s reputation over financial compensation.
The settlement included compensation for missing items, payment for her performance fees, and a public apology video from the promoter. However, the process was delayed due to the promoter’s inability to secure a suitable surety.
DJ Commissioner Wysei recounted a dramatic turn of events the day after the settlement agreement. Upon returning to the police station, she revealed that she discovered the promoter had been driven away in an unmarked vehicle without her knowledge.
When she attempted to find out what happened, she was attacked by a female police officer, who broke her glasses and caused her an eye injury.
She noted that the altercation allowed the unmarked vehicle to leave the premises with the promoter. Despite her immediate appeal to the Area Commander to investigate the assault, DJ Commissioner Wysei was said to have been detained and was taken to court the next day, precisely, Thursday, April 18, 2024, on a petition filed by the police, accusing her of assaulting and obstructing officers.
The case against her was eventually dismissed in court, and DJ Commissioner Wysei has since moved on with her life, as well as focusing on her music and other creative endeavours.
