Assassination: I was never arrested ―Ijumu LG boss

THE administrator of Ijumu local government area of Kogi State, Taofiq Isa, has said he was never arrested by the police over the alleged attack on the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye.

Isa, who said this Wednesday evening at the state secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Lokoja, said the report of his arrest was strange.

The administrator, who is also the state chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), said the news of his arrest was from those bent on tarnishing his image.

He however said he was only invited by the state command of the Nigeria Police on Tuesday where he had discussion with the police commissioner.

He also said he made statement to the police to clear himself of the allegations leveled against him by Melaye.

Isa stated that the news of his arrest by police from force headquarters was a ruse as he was never picked up nor taken to Abuja as reported in the media.

The administrator, who came to the NUJ secretariat at about 10.30pm, said as the chief security officer of the local government, his main preoccupation is the security of lives and properties of the people living in the council.

He said he had already constituted a 10-man administrative panel to look into the assassination claim by the senator, adding that the commissioner of police in the state, Wilson Inalegwu, had also ordered investigation into the claim.

The residence of the senator in his country home, Ayetoro Gbede was on Saturday allegedly attacked by unknown gunmen, who rained gun shots on the building.

Melaye has however accused Isah as the mastermind of the attack with the local government boss alleging that the senator stage managed the attack on himself.
