Netizens are questioning the response from the Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, regarding the cause of Sylvanus Erasmus’ death, asserting that “asphyxiation” equates to suffocation.
Earlier, Tribune Online reported that ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi reacted to a viral video of a woman accusing the police of killing her son, Erasmus.
Adejobi stated that the deceased died of asphyxiation.
Recall On Thursday, July 4th, 2024, Adejobi refuted the claims on his handle, stating that the case was handled by the force headquarters and an autopsy revealed that Erasmus died of asphyxiation, not torture.

The statement disclosed that Erasmus, a suspected cultist arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a young lady with his friend, had not been tortured by the police, and the case was from a year ago.
Several reactions have flooded Adejobi’s handle regarding the cause of Erasmus’ death:
Let me spell it out for you.
Asphyxiation means he was suffocated which means strangulation which means torture.

Sir, with due respect. Why do you Police Image Makers always report what you were told without investigation? How can a suspect die of asphyxiation? That’s the suffocation. Did you visit the scene so they show you where he died ? Autopsy result is what you are coming to quote…

@jazzyarthurmoss: Prince Olumuyiwa, this you statement makes the police culpable in this case. He did of suffocating in your custody. Who denied him oxygen? By what means? Most likely, the killer is either the police or someone allowed by the police. The Nigerian police is too corrupt.
