Ashafa calls for restoration of peace, calm in Lagos-East

Senator Gbenga Ashafa

In light of the wide spread reports of violence at the Kosofe axis of Lagos East Senatorial District during the Primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the House of Representatives and affirmation process for the Senators in Lagos State being returned unopposed, Senator Gbenga Ashafa has called on Honourable Bayo Osinowo AKA Pepper to sheath his sword and call the thugs purportedly working for him to order.

Following the official communication by the National Working Committee of the APC to the effect that only Senators Oluremi Tinubu, Gbenga Ashafa and Solomon Olamilekan have been cleared to contest the senatorial elections unopposed, it would have been expected of Hon Bayo Osinowo to respect the position of the party by supporting the Candidate recognised by the party. This was the case with Hon. Kayode Opeifa who also aspired for the Lagos West Senatorial Seat but has since withdrawn from the race following the decision of the party to return the incumbent Senators unopposed.

The Director of Communications to the Senator, Mr Ayodele Adio, in a statment said:

“It has become imperative for all men of good conscience to call Hon. Osinowo to order by immediately calling off this brazen show of violence being witnessed in the Kosofe Axis. At Kosofe Ward F in Ikosi Ketu, it took the intervention of the Nigerian Police force to restore the semblance of order after thugs wearing caps and insignia of Hon Bayo Osinowo “Pepper” started shooting sporadically and brandishing cutlasses to scare away party members. This was also the case in Agboyi Ward F and other places.

“For the past 7 and a half years, Lagos East has always been a peaceful district and has held intra party elections without violence or harassment of party members and officials.

“Consequently, Senator Ashafa hereby requests all security agencies to immediately restore peace in the affected areas. Senator Ashafa also enjoins his supporters to remain calm and peaceful as the affirmation process has been overwhelmingly in his favor in Epe, Ikorodu, Ibeju Lekki and Shomolu/Bariga axis of the district.,” he said.
