Artisan arraigned over alleged burglary

AN artisan, Goodluck Aladesan, was on Friday brought before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged burglary and theft of valuables worth N100, 000.

Aladesan, 27, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a three-count charge of felony, burglary and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 6 at around 5:30 a.m. at Ayeka New Site, Igbokoda Road in Okitipupa.

He said that the defendant burgled the house of one Ajayi Adekanye and stole a 32-inch television and one LCD player all valued at N100,000.

Omoyeigha said the offences contravened Sections 516, 411 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Dickson Ogunfuyi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.

He said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of one-year tax clearance paid to the Ondo State Government as part of the bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until July 10 for further hearing.
