Armed robbers on Thursday killed two persons in a robbery attack along the Rore/Arandun highway in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Tribune Online gathered that the hoodlums killed a private security guard, Mr Wale Ajiboye, aged 40, while he was resisting an attempt by the bandits to gain entry into a residence he was guarding, as well as a commercial driver, Mr Taiye Yebi, aged 38.

It was also learnt that the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the hospital morgue while police investigations are ongoing.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the development, described it as unfortunate, saying that the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a discreet investigation and reinforced patrols within the area to forestall a recurrence.

“The Kwara State Police Command confirms an unfortunate armed robbery and culpable homicide incident which occurred at about 06:30 hours on Thursday, August 28, 2025, along Rore/Arandun highway, Irepodun LGA.

“Armed hoodlums attacked the residence of a businessman, Mr Oyetoyan Dare, during which his private security guard, Mr Wale Ajiboye, aged 40, was fatally shot while resisting their attempt to gain entry into the residence.

“In a related development, the same gang ambushed a vehicle conveying farm produce from Ora in Osun State. The driver, Mr Taiye Yebi, aged 38, who was unaware of the robbery incident and was driving past, was fatally shot. Another passenger sustained minor injuries.

“Police operatives swiftly responded, recovering expended and live ammunition from the scene. The corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue while investigations are ongoing.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips, has ordered a discreet investigation and reinforced patrols within the area to forestall recurrence.

“The Command reassures the public that normalcy has been restored, and perpetrators will be apprehended.”
