The Arewa Progressive Group (APG) has commended Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, for appointing Hassan Hyet as Director-General of his 2027 presidential campaign.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the group’s Coordinator, Ambassador Yusuf Kanhu, and Publicity Secretary, Hon. Sabitu Yakawada, on Monday.
While congratulating Hyet on his appointment, the group described the decision as recognition of his leadership capacity, commitment and ability to contribute to the growth and repositioning of the party at a critical period in Nigeria’s political development.
“We consider this appointment a significant recognition of Mr. Hyet’s leadership capacity, commitment and ability to contribute meaningfully to the growth and repositioning of the party at a critical moment in Nigeria’s political journey,” the statement said.
The group also congratulated Hyet, as well as the leadership, members and supporters of the APM, while expressing its support for his new role.

“We equally congratulate the APM Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on the strategic steps being taken to build a broad based and inclusive political alliance capable of attracting, recruiting, training and empowering a new generation of Nigerians who desire a fresh direction for the country,” it said.
According to the group, the emergence of a new political alliance under Makinde’s leadership presents an opportunity to bring together progressive minds, young leaders, professionals and citizens from different regions and backgrounds around a common vision for national stability, unity and economic prosperity.
It said Hyet’s appointment would further strengthen the emerging political platform and boost the confidence of young Nigerians in the APM’s ability to provide an inclusive space for those seeking political change.
“As the Arewa Progressive Group, we are particularly encouraged by the appointment of Mr. Hyet, whom we regard as one of us and a valuable bridge between the aspirations of Northern Nigerians and the broader national agenda of the APM,” the statement added.
The group said it would commence the mobilisation of its members, partners and supporters across the 19 northern states in support of Makinde’s candidature and the APM ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
It said Nigeria needed leadership that would unite rather than divide, create opportunities rather than perpetuate exclusion, and provide a platform for new ideas and generations of leaders to contribute to national development.
The statement added, “We therefore congratulate Mr. Hassan Hyet once again and wish him success in his new responsibility as Director General of the Allied Peoples Movement.”
The group also said it looked forward to working with the APM leadership and other Nigerians to build a movement capable of taking its message of a new Nigeria to communities across the North and beyond.
