Approve Aregbeshola as next Osolo, Isolo kingmakers, royal family tells Lagos govt

Isolo kingmakers in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State have called on the state government to give attention to the letter before it, as regards the selection of Alhaji Saheed Aregbeshola as the next Osolo of Isolo kingdom.

They maintained that the choice of Osolo-elect was in conformity with the Customary Law of Isolo kingdom contrary to opposing narrative.

Speaking on behalf of kingmakers, Chief Ramon Inufele Musendiku made the call at a press conference in Lagos, explaining the rationale behind the choice of Alhaji Aregbeshola as Osolo-elect.

Musendiku, who spoke alongside one of his colleagues, Chief Rasaq Onikoyi, who is the Afobaje Osuro, said Aregbeshola, who is set to succeed the late Oba Kabir Agbabiaka, was chosen in conformity with the Customary Law of Isolo kingdom by virtue of the fact that it is the turn of the Alagbeji royal family to produce the next Osolo.

He disclosed that there exists a rotation within the four branches of the Alagbeji royal family, but pointed out that it was the turn of the Alabe branch to produce a candidate, adding that the decision of the family was based on Isolo history.

“We, therefore, urge the state government to give attention to our letter of the selection of Alhaji Saheed Aregbeshola as the next Osolo of Isolo kingdom, with all seriousness it deserved and disregard any false narration to the contrary,” Musendiku said.

The head of kingmakers disclosed that the same procedure adopted in the appointment of previous monarchs since 1975, when the late Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka emerged as the Osolo of Isolo and also in 1988 when the late Oba Disu Faronbi emerged was used in selecting Alhaji Aregbeshola.

Meanwhile, head (Olori-ebi) of Alagbeji royal family, Alhaji Taoreed Faronbi, in separate letters written to the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, on October 9 and titled ‘Osolo Stool: Request for urgent intervention’, called for their intervention for a speedy process that will culminate in the presentation of a Staff of Office to Alhaji Aregbeshola, soonest.

The Alagbeji royal family head equally maintained that the choice of Aregbeshola as Osolo-elect was unanimously made by the family, saying “The entire Alagbeji was shocked on hearing that some persons went to town with a false narrative at variance with our choice of candidate for the Osolo Stool.”
