Apple officially announced Wednesday the iPhone 16e, a budget-friendly addition to its latest lineup.
Set to launch on February 28, the device is already generating buzz for offering premium features at a lower price. Here’s everything you need to know about Apple’s newest smartphone.
The iPhone 16e is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the standard iPhone 16, starting at $599. While it costs more than the iPhone SE, which previously held the budget spot, it offers several upgrades that make it a worthwhile choice. The 16e closely resembles the iPhone 16 in size and design but makes a few compromises to keep costs down.
Apple has equipped the iPhone 16e with a 6.1-inch OLED display, though it retains the classic notch instead of the more modern Dynamic Island. Under the hood, it runs on Apple’s powerful A18 chip, the same processor found in the standard iPhone 16, but with a slightly reduced 4-core GPU. This means it may not be as fast as the flagship model, but it still delivers strong performance.
Battery life is another highlight. With Apple’s new C1 cellular modem, the 16e is expected to be more power-efficient, offering up to 26 hours of video playback—outlasting the standard iPhone 16’s 22 hours.
To keep costs down, Apple has left out a few premium features. The iPhone 16e does not support MagSafe, meaning users won’t be able to snap the phone onto MagSafe chargers or accessories. However, it does support Qi wireless charging. Additionally, color options are limited to black and white, unlike the more vibrant choices available for the iPhone 16.
Preorders for the iPhone 16e open on February 21 at 5 am PT (8 am ET). It will be available for purchase through Apple, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Best Buy.
With its mix of affordability, strong performance, and long battery life, the iPhone 16e is shaping up to be an attractive option for those who want a modern iPhone experience without paying a premium price.
