THE Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has formally acknowledged the contributions of its outgoing Central Working Committee (CWC) members, whose term concluded on July 29.
Comrade Joshua Apebo, the ASCSN Secretary-General, praised the former leaders for their dedication and service, emphasising their role in strengthening the union.
In a press release made available to journalists, Apebo underscored that the CWC, elected during the fourth Quadrennial National Delegates Conference at the Nigeria Airforce Conference Centre in Abuja on July 29, 2020, adhered strictly to the constitutional term of four years.
“The tenure of the CWC has expired in accordance with Rule 15(iv) of the ASCSN Constitution,” Apebo stated. He went further to clarify that there had been no extension of tenure as the CWC lacked the authority to do so.”
He also noted that the association has formally notified key government bodies and security agencies of the CWC’s tenure expiration, ensuring compliance with constitutional norms. This, he said, includes the Registrar of Trade Unions, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, among others.
The ASCSN scribe also noted that the tenure expiration, according to the norms of the trade union, has been publicly announced in national newspapers.
Apebo, however, cautioned against any attempt by CWC members whose tenures have ended to continue representing themselves as national leaders, labelling such actions as “lawlessness, impunity and gangsterism.”
He charged ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and security bodies to avoid engaging with members whose terms have ended to prevent the endorsement of illegal practices.
