On Tuesday, hundreds of youth supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State gathered at the State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
They urged the organisers of the upcoming nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024, to reconsider their plans, citing concerns that the protest could be hijacked by miscreants and potentially lead to chaos and anarchy.
Speaking on behalf of the APC youths, the Chairman of the Coalition of APC Youth Movements, Kano State, Hon. Adamu Mukhtar Unguwar Gini, condemned the timing and necessity of the protest.
He pointed out that various developmental projects have been initiated under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“The protest is ill-timed and uncalled for, given the developmental strides made by the current administration,” Hon. Unguwar Gini said.
He advised the youth to engage in constructive dialogue with the government instead of taking to the streets.
“The Coalition of APC Youth Movements, Kano State, under my chairmanship, wishes to address the Nigerian youth regarding the proposed EndBadGovernance protest slated for August 1, 2024,” he added.
Hon. Adamu Mukhtar Unguwar Gini, Chairman of the Coalition of APC Youth Movements, Kano State, acknowledged the legitimate concerns and grievances of the youth but strongly advised against participating in the upcoming protest.
“History has shown that protests, even when well-intentioned, have often not resulted in the desired outcomes,” he said.
“We have seen instances where protests led to further instability and suffering, as witnessed in countries like Sudan, Libya, and recently, Kenya.
“In these nations, protests did not resolve the issues but rather exacerbated the challenges faced by the populace.”
He emphasised the need for the government to address economic and social challenges with tangible solutions to improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.
“It is crucial that the government addresses the economic and social challenges facing the country, providing tangible solutions to improve the quality of life for all Nigerians,” he stated.
“Let us all work together towards a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” he concluded.
