•receives Senator Nwoko
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje has said his party would dislodge the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) in the 2027 general elections in Delta state.
Ganduje made the declaration on Wednesday while receiving the Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko at the party national secretariat in Abuja.
A formal letter announcing his defection was read on the floor of the Senate by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
Receiving Senator Nwoko at the party national secretariat, Ganduje who noted that all the Senators in the south-south state are now in the APC boasted that the PDP would be ousted from the Government House, Asaba in the forthcoming general elections.
The APC chairman who said Senator Nwoko must have been impressed by the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in less than two years, however, appealed to the party chieftains in Delta to bury their differences and work together as one united political family.
He said: “You are most welcome, distinguished Senator, Nwoko. There’s no doubt our great party is the most nationalistic party.
“Our party believes in national integration. Our party believes in national unity. Our party believes in progress and providing prosperity to the people of Nigeria.
“There’s no doubt our leader, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a focused leader, he is a visionary leader. Immediately he came, he knew where to start, he knew what to do, and he introduced some reforms, even though they were painful, they are unavoidable reforms. If you want Nigeria to progress, there is no doubt you have to undertake such reforms.
“But we are so happy. We have started seeing the progress, and the outcome of such reforms. Oil production has increased. Oil refineries are working. Security is improving.
“So the country is working. This is our party. We believe in internal democracy.
“When you say our party is peaceful, it is peaceful because we believe in internal democracy. And we know our chapter in Delta will also implement internal democracy. We request you, the stakeholders, to come together to cooperate, because we had two senators before, two out of three, having two fathers in the state, and now we have three senators, three over three.
“If every senator will go back to his constituency and work very hard, you know the outcome. As we promised, we will take over Delta State. We assure you of maximum cooperation.
“We know funding is not a problem. Organization is not a problem. Commitment is not a problem.
“What we are looking forward is a highly organised party structure in that state, composed of men and women, especially young men who will go from house to house to show that APC dominates almost everywhere. Thank you for coming. I’m so happy to have you.”
Speaking with journalists, Senator Nwoko said the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori would not be allowed to join the APC as he claimed that the latter lacks the capacity to govern the state.
“How? Why? I have just told you that he doesn’t have the capacity to be a governor where we are. He has not delivered to my expectations.
“We have projects that I told him that need to be done for the people which he refused to do.”
