The national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress has reacted to remarks attributed to the Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, where he accused President Bola Tinubu of treating with kid gloves alleged plot by the APC to rig August 15 off-season governorship election.
Governor Adeleke, while speaking at a campaign rally in Sabo area of Osogbo, the state capital, cautioned that his Accord Party would only accept outcome of a free and fair election.
He said: “President Bola Tinubu, as our father, we are appealing to you. We will not accept any attempt to rig this election. You will remember what happened in 1983. It started in Yorubaland, particularly in Ondo State, when Chief Bola Ige was allegedly cheated. We do not want history to repeat itself. What we want is a free, fair, and credible election.”
Speaking with journalists at the APC headquarters in Abuja, National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, dismissed allegations of plot by the APC to rig the election as unfounded.
The APC National Secretary declared that Governor Adeleke knew that his scorecard has been unimpressive to the electorate who are determined to reject him with their votes at the polls.
He said: “The election is still eleven days away and he has been indulging in spurious allegations that he can’t substantiate. Where is he getting the information that we are planning to rig the election?
“What has he done to impress the people to justify a fresh mandate from our people in Osun state?

The APC National Secretary who incidentally is from Osun State said the sitting governor and candidate of the Accord Party has failed to provide social infrastructure for the people just as he raised concern over teachers’ deficit and unemployment rate in the state.
Responding to the Osun State governor’s declaration that Accord Party has made a pledge to support President Tinubu in the forthcoming general elections, the APC National Secretary dismissed it as a political gimmick and submitted that the APC would not be hoodwinked by such assurance.
He advised Governor Adeleke to seek for votes on the strength of his Accord Party and his performance rather than play up sentiments which he noted would not secure the votes for him in next weekend election.
Senator Bashiru maintained that the growing popularity of APC and its governorship candidate,
Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), was causing nightmares for Governor Adeleke which informed his recourse to “cheap blackmail to gain political sympathy.”
