APC FCT reconciliation committee to tour area councils, appease aggrieved members

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is taking proactive steps to unify its ranks as the Unity and Reconciliation Committee (URC) prepares to begin a tour of the Area Councils next week.

This development was disclosed during a meeting between members of the URC and the Minister of State for the FCT, Hajiya Mariya Mahmud Bunkure. The minister expressed satisfaction with the committee’s readiness and strategic framework, noting that the initiative was timely for strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

She commended the committee’s composition, which she described as a blend of seasoned politicians capable of engaging with grassroots supporters and re-energising the party’s base.

Senator Usman Jibril Wowo, Chairman of the URC, led the delegation to the minister and explained that the upcoming visit to Area Councils was designed to identify specific challenges within each locality and propose informed recommendations to the party leadership.

Wowo emphasised that the APC must listen to the genuine concerns of its members across the FCT to foster unity and ensure victory in the forthcoming Area Council elections. He stressed the importance of maintaining a united front, stating, “Our party cannot afford to go to the polls with a divided house.”

He pointed to the visible infrastructural development achieved under APC leadership as a compelling reason for party unity, asking rhetorically, “Is this infrastructural development not good? How can we deny our people the much desired progress that the APC is offering, for what we do not know?”

According to Wowo, the visit to the Minister of State was intended to brief her on the committee’s strategy and to incorporate her views as a key political figure in the territory’s leadership.

He described the meeting as productive and beneficial to the committee’s mission, noting that the exchanges with the minister provided valuable insights for the reconciliation efforts ahead.

Wowo called on all APC members with grievances to approach the committee in good faith, urging them to express their concerns respectfully and civilly. “We know people are willing to work for the APC. We are also aware that many members want the party to give them listening ears,” he said.

He assured members that the committee is committed to resolving internal issues and would consider all inputs seriously in order to make recommendations that would strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.

“We are not sneaking into any Area Council,” Wowo added. “We are going in to meet our people from all sides. That is why we are calling on everyone to come and meet with the committee and share their concerns for a robust engagement that would witness a conflict-free body ahead of the elections.”
