APC congresses: Buni’s Committee may shelve exercise in Anambra, Zamfara

Buni

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee inaugurates tomorrow, Thursday, the teams that would conduct its ward congresses across states chapters on Saturday, the exercise meant to put substantive officers in place, may be aborted in Zamafara and Anambra States.

A party source told Nigerian Tribune that the decision to put the exercise on hold in the two states was as a result of the leadership tussle rocking the North West state and the crisis trailing the governorship primary that threw up Senator Andy Uba as the party standard-bearer ahead of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.

The source further noted that the two-party chieftains in Zamfara State, former governor, Abdul Aziz Yari and Senator Kabiru Marafan, smarting for a showdown with the incumbent governor, Governor Mohammed Bello Matawalle who recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could cast aspersion on the entire process in Zamfara State.

Nigerian Tribune checks revealed that the APC Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee led by Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni had announced the dissolution of the state caretaker committees in the State and pronounced Governor Matawalle as the party leader.

He said: “I can confirm to you that the conduct of party ward congresses remains sacrosanct, but congresses will not hold in Anambra and Zamfara.”

“The committees that will conduct the congresses will be inaugurated on Thursday by the National Secretariat of the party by the Caretaker Committee here in Abuja.”

Asked if the process would equally be aborted in the North Central state of Kwara against the backdrop of the cold war between the Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman Abdul Razaq and the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, the APC national officer dismissed the face off in the state as a non-issue.

“Quote me, ward congress will hold on Saturday nationwide, except Anambra and Zamfara State.

“There will be congress in Kwara State. They will have their structure and we go ahead from there. Mind you, there will be an appeal committee that will attend to complain after the congress to assuage any aggrieved member.”
