Following the emergence of Hon. Rufus Bature led state executive of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State, a factional group led by one of the aspirants, Hon. Ishaya Itse has formed parallel state executives.
This is just as the newly elected Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Sylvanus Namang described those behind the factional State Executive as mischief-makers being sponsored to destabilise the party.
It would be recalled that Hon. Bature led executive was elected on Saturday through a consensus by stakeholders and delegates from the 17 local government areas of the state while some aspirants boycotted the congress, on the premise that the processes were not democratic and transparent enough.
According to a statement issued and signed by the factional group’s secretary, Hon. Nanman Maimagani Zhatau declared that State Executives of the party led Hon. Rufus Bature was not duly elected and has no evidence of the purchase of forms that elapsed on Monday 11 October, 2021 to contest the state congress.
“Contrary to the party’s guidelines for the conduct of the ward and Local Government congresses, what happened during the state congresses in Plateau State was worst than what was witnessed at the local government congresses.
“The purported state congress which was said to have been conducted at Crest Hotel was null and void because there was no any form of screening neither identification of people who bought forms but just to say that they have conducted congresses and acclaimed winners have emerged.
“The acclaimed winners cannot show evidence of their bank tellers and when they paid their money for the various positions because the last data for the purchase of nomination forms ended on Monday 11 October, 2021.”
“It will interest you to know that this morning we have been informed that security operatives were seen at our party Secretariat removing flags of our party at Kalwa House.
“In order to restore peace, unity in our party, security operatives should stay clear of political crisis, because policemen are peacemakers and not to be bought by politicians to intimidate others just like what we witness today in our secretariat.” He warned
In his reaction, newly elected Publicity Secretary Mr. Sylvanus Namang said the congress was devoid of rancour or any acrimony adding that all stakeholders and aspirants were carried along in the build-up towards adopting a consensus for the congress.
According to him, the officials were elected unopposed through a consensus by the accredited delegates from all the 17 local government areas of the state adding that paragraph six of the guideline for the congress provided there can be affirmation or consensus.
“These people behind the so-called parallel state secretariat are not known to the party because all the aspirants were present at the venue of the congress at Crest Hotel and there was no dissenting voice, so who are these aggrieved people?
“Everything was done in the presence of security operatives, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), including those sent from the National Secretariat of the party to supervise and conduct the congress. These so-called aggrieved people are just mischief-makers, agents of disunity who want to cause disunity where there is none. You can not go to one corner and put a signboard claiming parallel office, there must be a reason to justify your action.
“The bottom line is that APC in Plateau is united, the State Executives in place presently is a popular one and choice of the people right from the ward,” he said.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, therefore, advised those muting idea of the parallel secretariat to desist from such for their interests.
