APC aspirants warned against using Tuggar’s name for 2027 campaigns

Candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections have been warned to stop using the name and popularity of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to advance their campaigns.

The warning was contained in a press statement issued by the Tuggar Campaign Organisation (TCO), signed by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media to Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and made available to journalists on Saturday.

The TCO also strongly condemned what it described as false and misleading claims made during a press conference by individuals aligned with M. A. Abubakar, SAN, alleging that supporters of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, had abandoned him and pledged allegiance to another aspirant.

According to the statement, “This claim is categorically false. It is a calculated act of political deception designed to manufacture a false narrative of momentum, mislead party members, and distort the true state of affairs within the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

The TCO added: “The deliberate dissemination of false information to mislead party members and the public is inconsistent with both the spirit and provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, particularly the requirements under Sections 92 and 95 for peaceful, responsible, and issue-based campaigns.”

“The APC deserves a contest defined by ideas, credibility, and respect for the truth—not manufactured endorsements and media theatrics,” it added.

The organisation further stated: “For the avoidance of doubt, the Tuggar Campaign Organisation remains united, focused, and unwavering in its support for Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar. No individual or group has been authorised to negotiate, announce, or declare allegiance to any other aspirant on behalf of the campaign.”

“We therefore call on all aspirants and their supporters to immediately desist from spreading falsehoods and to conduct their campaigns with honesty, integrity, and respect for democratic norms. The pursuit of political ambition must never come at the expense of truth,” the TCO concluded.

Recall that Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar contested for the APC governorship ticket in Bauchi State but lost. He subsequently expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, alleging that no valid primary election was conducted in the state.
