Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for the arrest of individuals who claim to have received credit alerts “miraculously” after praying in church.

Obi made this remark during a recent episode of the Honest Bunch Podcast.

The former governor of Anambra State criticised the popular practice of testifying about such “miraculous” financial gains.

According to him, the trend, which has gained popularity across Nigerian churches, does not represent a divine blessing but rather an act of fraud.

He added that God blesses and rewards productivity, stressing that those who claim to have received miraculous alerts without working may have stolen money belonging to others.

He said, “God can bless handiwork, productivity and industry. But he cannot bless someone who is sleeping. Anybody who says he got alert from praying should be arrested. You have stolen somebody’s money.”

Obi’s remarks come a few weeks after the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries faced criticism following a series of extraordinary testimonies from its members that went viral.

The testimonies, which feature claims of miraculous encounters such as being saved from lions and overpowering armed robbers, sparked widespread scepticism on social media.
