The newly appointed National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, has pledged to reposition the apex library and place it at par with its counterparts in the world.
Anunobi who spoke while addressing management staff in the Boardroom of the organisation, on the assumption of duties, solicited their support and cooperation, in order to achieve greater mileage for the organisation.
Head, Public Relations Division, Mr Vershima Orvell-Dio, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja quoted the new National Librarian as saying that she believes in collaboration and teamwork.
“To that extent, everyone here is a stakeholder and together, all of us are stakeholders in the success or failure of this organisation.
“I, as a stakeholder, have chosen the path of success and that’s why I am seeking for your collaboration so that together, we shall succeed,” she said.
Earlier in her remarks, Mrs Oluchi Kalu who had been acting as the National Librarian since August 2, 2021, welcomed Prof. Anunobi and pledged the unwavering support of the management and staff to the new National Librarian.
Furthermore, she informed her of the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Ministry of Education towards the completion of the permanent headquarters building, through a funding window by the Tertiary Education Fund.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari last week approved the appointment of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as the new National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria.
The appointment which takes effect from 2nd September 2021, was announced by the Director of Press, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu on September 8, 2021.
She had at different times been a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, the Imo State University, and the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
Until her appointment, Prof Anunobi completed her tenure as the University Librarian of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO in April 2021 and returned to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka before she was identified by President Muhammadu Buhari and appointed as Nigeria’s National Librarian.
