The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has launched an independent probe into allegations of financial impropriety involving one of its Bishops, following reports circulating on social media and in the press.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the Church, Venerable Gershinen Paul Dajur, the Church said it views the matter with the utmost seriousness and has set up a high-level investigation panel to establish the truth.
The panel, chaired by a retired judge, is expected to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability throughout the process.
“As a Church committed to the teachings of Christ, and to integrity and accountability, we take these matters with the utmost seriousness.
“Accordingly, we have immediately constituted an independent, high-level investigation panel to examine the allegations and to establish the truth”, the statement read.
The Church urged members of the Anglican Communion, other Christians, and the general public to avoid speculation while the investigation is ongoing.
It also assured that appropriate action would be taken in line with biblical principles and the governance structures of the Church once the panel submits its findings.
“Our faith reminds us that the Church is greater than any individual, and we remain steadfast in our mission to serve God and humanity with sincerity,” the statement added, while calling for prayers for wisdom, unity, and healing during the period.
