Anambra to set up computer-based vehicle inspection centre

ANAMBRA Government on Thursday said it would set up a computer-based vehicle inspection centre to replace the old ways of checking vehicles for road worthiness.

Mr Christopher Okeke, Head, Vehicle Inspection Office, Ministry of Transport, made the disclosure in Awka on the sidelines of the ongoing week of the West African Road Safety Organisation (WARSO).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2017 edition of the WARSO celebration, which commenced on Monday, is entitled, “Save Lives, Slow Down”.

According to him, the state government is committed to ensuring rickety vehicles are easily detected and ordered off the roads.

“The vehicle inspection, when established, centre will ensure that vehicle inspection will no longer be done manually.

“Before any vehicle in Anambra state is issued certificate of road worthiness, it vehicle must have undergone the computer-based testing.

“This effort will go a long way in minimising accidents on our roads,” he said.

He further disclosed that the centre would be a multi-purpose one with facilities for checking head-lamps, brakes and other parts of vehicles.
