Ahead of Saturday’s local government election in Anambra, the State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security across the 21 council areas in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam who gave the assurance while briefing Journalists at the Command’s headquarters Amawbia-Awka on Friday, noted that residents of areas prone to insecurity will also vote in their various local government headquarters.

According to Itam, “Places like Lilu, Iseke, Ubuluisiuzo, Mbosi where there is insecurity would vote at their local government council headquarters, and there will be provided security and facilities there.

“We have deployed enough manpower in the state to ensure adequate security, and we are assuring people of their safety.”

He said there will be restriction of movement, and that police will enforce it from 8am to 4pm, while enjoining the citizens and residents of the state to take the restriction seriously.

He continued: “We are calling the attention of the public, Anambra people and residents as they have always done in the past to come out and cast their votes for the candidates of their choice.

“For us we are on ground to provide security and ensure everywhere is safe and ensure that as much as possible the will of the people will prevail.

“We hope that everyone will conduct themselves with dignity. All the entry points into Anambra State would be blocked and there will be restriction and we hope people conduct themselves responsibly.

“It is not a do or die affair and we hope that everyone cooperates with us to ensure a seamless exercise,” Itam said.
