The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has set up its Governorship Campaign Council at the various polling units, 326 wards and 21 local government areas in preparation for the victory of the party’s candidate in the November 8, 2025, election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.
Ukachukwu disclosed this to newsmen at the end of a meeting with party stakeholders drawn from across the 21 LGAs and three senatorial districts, held on Friday in Awka, the state capital.
He said the meeting with stakeholders was specifically to review the state of the party, taking into account the ugly events that transpired during the August 16, 2025, Anambra South Senatorial and Onitsha North 1 State House of Assembly by-elections.
Already, leaders, elders, and members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the APC have resolved to mobilise, sensitise, and intensify awareness among members and the electorate so they can vote massively for the party and deliver Prince Ukachukwu and his deputy governorship candidate, Senator (Dr) Uche Ekwunife, on November 8.
The APC governorship candidate explained that the constituted polling unit, ward, and LGA campaign councils were aimed at mobilising the electorate, party members, and grassroots communities towards the success of the APC at the polls.
According to him, the party appointed 30 persons from each polling unit, 25 persons for each of the 326 wards, and another 25 each from the 21 LGAs as members of the campaign councils at those levels.
He stated that the activities of the grassroots campaign councils would graduate to the constitution of the State Campaign Council as part of the party’s strategic plans to drum up massive support and spread the message of hope, vision, mission, and programmes to the people ahead of the election.
“The stakeholders’ meeting was to review our last elections (by-elections), the disappointments and challenges we had, and also to discuss, harmonise, and approve local government campaign councils, ward campaign councils, and polling unit campaign councils,” he said.
“We decided to have a 30-man campaign council at the polling units, up to the wards, with 25 people per ward, and coordinate them. Then, at the local governments, we have the same number — 25. We now move to form the State Campaign Council. It’s like a review meeting — to review our campaign so far, revisit again, know the problems here and there, and know how to go about them.”
While expressing optimism that rejigging the fold strategically would launch the party to victory, Prince Ukachukwu also deplored the unsportsmanlike behaviour of members of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and state-owned security outfit Agunechemba and Udo Ga Achi operatives, over alleged intimidation of voters, electoral manipulations, and other challenges that trailed the by-elections.
“And I am happy that where we are now is quite good, but we still have to make more efforts. The reports we have gotten so far show that our people are doing their best, and they have overcome the challenges of intimidation and all the things that happened during the previous elections (by-elections); all the intimidation by non-state actors and APGA’s manipulation of results. We have gone beyond that with strategies, checks and balances, coordination, and ensuring we have a stake,” he added.
He tasked leaders, elders, and members of the party to rise above board to confront the challenges ahead, dislodge the ruling APGA-led government, and ensure the APC clinches victory in the state.
Earlier, Chairman of the APC in the state, Chief Basil Ejidike, in his address, said the party is determined to take over the new Government House on November 8.
He noted that a lot of water had passed under the bridge following the events of the August 16 by-elections.
Ejidike pointed out that the governorship campaign leading to the November 8, 2025, poll would soon commence, with committees and coordinators to be constituted at the various polling units, wards, and local government areas.
He, therefore, urged elders and leaders to be alive to their responsibilities to ensure the party’s victory in the crucial election.
