The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full-scale manhunt for the gunmen who abducted and killed a businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekere.
Onyekere was attacked on the evening of Saturday, July 27, 2025, at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka.
He was reportedly shot in the leg and forcibly taken by his assailants. His body was later discovered, a development that has sparked outrage and fear in the community.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the CP has directed tactical and intelligence units to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators.
According to the statement, a joint operation by the Police and Anambra Vigilante operatives recovered the victim’s navy blue Toyota Corolla, which the attackers used to flee the scene. The vehicle was found along the Ukwulu/Igbariam road.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the assailants had trailed Onyekere before executing the violent attack.
Condemning the killing, CP Orutugu vowed that no stone would be left unturned in the quest for justice.
“This cowardly act will not go unpunished. We owe it to the victim’s family, the people of Anambra State, and the memory of Mr. Onyekere to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” he said.
SP Ikenga assured that updates on the investigation will be made public as developments unfold.
