Anambra-Guber-Contestants
A group identify, as Anambra Destiny Movement (ADM), has vowed to resist the imposition of any governorship candidates by individuals, group or political parties in the forthcoming Anambra 2021 gubernatorial election.
The founder of the group, Chief Ekene Enefe gave the hint while speaking to some selected journalists on the preparation of the election in Awka, the Anambra state capital, on Monday.
According to him, there would be no space for unwilling candidates in the 2021 governorship election in the state.
Enefe said nobody should be dragged into the contest, urging Anambra indigenes across the three senatorial zones who have good agenda for the state to declare their ambitions.
“We don’t want unwilling candidates, we don’t want people who will be dragged into the race.
“We want people who are prepared, people who have programme people who are convinced within themselves that they are interested in leading Anambra
“Anambra has infrastructure deficit, we need aspirants and candidates who have an agenda for addressing these governance issues and not people who are cajoled into the race.
“We need individuals who can demonstrate that they know and appreciate the leadership challenges we have in the state.

“As we have seen recently, there are persons asking people to run, Anambra is wiser than that, we shall not allow such individuals or groups to dominate us this time, we want a leadership recruitment process that is people-based,” he said.
He said the ADM was satisfied with the number of persons that have so far indicated interest to contest for the number one political office in Anambra, adding that it would give a variety of options for the electorate to chose from.
He said the association was neither for zoning nor for any political party but would work for candidates based on their personal credentials and agenda for Anambra.
The ADM leader who decried the high cost of electioneering in Nigeria said the process has shut a number of good material out from the race.
“The best candidates are not supposed to be the richest persons but unfortunately the process is such that elections are expensive, primary elections are expensive and that leaves some of the aspirants that can do better out the contest.
“However, we are happy with the number of aspirants that have indicated interest, it gives the Anambra electorate the ample opportunity to assess these people and to help make informed choices, for us the more, the merrier.
“What is important is for the parties to conduct a primary that will reflect the wishes of the people and produce candidates that are acceptable to their majority of their supporters,” he said.
