Following the July 1, 2021 deadline given to qualified political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct their primaries ahead of the slated November 6, 2021, Anambra governorship election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), have concluded their primaries, to beat the deadline.

Tribune Online correspondent, who monitored the three electoral processes, gathered that Chief Akachukwu Sullivan Nwankpo, emerged candidate of the ADC unopposed through voice votes.

The ADC Primary was held at Professor Dora Akuyelli Women Development Centre Awka, on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021, with 7,351 delegates in attendance.

In his brief remarks, the National Chairman of the party, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, used the occasion to appeal to the leaders of the INEC and other election management agencies in the country to conduct free, fair, credible and transparent election in the interest of democratic sustainability.

The guber candidate, in his acceptance speech, promised to run an all-inclusive government, if given the opportunity to govern the state.

He described ADC as the only political party in Nigeria, founded in truth and honesty.

Also the Action Democratic Party (ADP), elected Price Afam Ume-Ezeoke, as its flag bearer for the November 6th, guber election.

Ume-Ezeoke emerges unopposed through a voice vote.

In his acceptance speech, he appealed to his party members to remain committed to the party’s unity, to enable them to win the gubernatorial election with over ninety-three per cent, as ADP had become a mass movement amongst Ndi Anambra.

The State Chairman of the party, Comrade Mathias Ameke, expressed hope that ADP would do far better than all previous governors of Anambra State, including the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano.

On the part of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Arinze Ekeleme, emerged as the standard-bearer of the party.

Ekeleme polled 111 votes to emerge the winner of the election which he was the sole aspirant at the party Secretariat on Tuesday in Awka.

Mrs Maggie Batubo, chairman of Anambra 2021 Governorship Primary Electoral committee said though one person aspired for the position, the. committee ensured that all constitutional provisions were met.

Batubo said that 116 delegates were due to participate in the election, out of which 115 were accredited.

“Of the figure, 114 voted and Ekeleme scored 111 votes, while three void votes were recorded,” she said.

She said that the committee was impressed by the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Ekeleme, in his acceptance speech, thanked the party for the opportunity to fly its flag, assuring that he would do everything possible to win November 6 election.

He said if supported that he would step up the development of the state, making youth and women empowerment and agriculture as a springboard.

Tribune Online also gathered that INEC officials from Abuja and Anambra State and security agencies were all present during the electoral exercises.
