Former governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, said: “It is with a profound sense of honour that I write to congratulate the Nigerian Tribune as it marks its remarkable 75 years of dedicated service in journalism and news reportage.
“For over seven decades, the Nigerian Tribune has consistently remained a credible source of reporting, advocating for truth, advancing our democracy and national development with staunch commitment to the good of the people.
“Established in 1949 by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, making it the oldest private newspaper in Nigeria, the Nigerian Tribune has established itself not only as a reliable platform for public discourse, but also rich repository of Nigeria’s history, upholding the highest ideals of journalism, truth-telling and integrity.
“Tribune’s effort, resilience and commitment to democratic values are well documented and commendable. Your commitment to objective reporting has set a standard in the Nigerian media space and served as inspiration to generations of aspiring journalists.
“During the nation’s struggle for independence, the Nigerian Tribune provided a voice for the struggle and when the military rule began its war against freedom of the press during the struggle for democracy, you stood with the people and remained steadfast in your advocacy for democratic values even when it was more convenient to do otherwise.”
