Flaco Jimenez, the legendary American accordionist and six-time Grammy Award winner, has died at the age of 86.
Jimenez, widely credited with bringing Tex-Mex music to international prominence, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2025, surrounded by his family, according to a statement shared on Facebook by his loved ones.
“It’s with great sadness we share the loss of our father, Flaco Jimenez. He was surrounded by loved ones and will be missed immensely,” the family wrote, adding a note of gratitude to his fans and requesting privacy during this time of mourning.
A musical prodigy who began performing at the age of seven, Jimenez rose to global fame for his pioneering role in blending traditional Mexican folk with country, rock, and blues. He was a founding member of the Grammy-winning groups Texas Tornados and Los Super Seven, leaving an indelible mark on American roots music.
Over his decades-long career, Jimenez collaborated with music legends such as Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and Dwight Yoakam, helping to bridge cultural and musical divides through his unique sound.
