American Open University Nigeria is set to officially open its Ogbomoso Centre in Oyo State on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the university’s centre in the High School Area of Ogbomoso, is expected to bring together academics, traditional leaders, education stakeholders and other distinguished guests.

The event will be held under the theme, “Repositioning Ogbomoso for the Global Economy.”

Professor Adeolu Afalabi, Professor of Cybersecurity and eLearning at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, is the Guest Speaker.

The Royal Father of the Day is His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogegege III, Soun of Ogbomosoland.

The ceremony is being organised by the Chancellor and Governing Council of American Open University Nigeria as part of activities marking the official opening of the Ogbomoso Centre.

The new centre is expected to expand access to flexible and open learning opportunities for residents of Ogbomoso and neighbouring communities.

It is also expected to contribute to human capital development, digital education and the acquisition of skills needed for participation in the global economy.

American Open University had earlier announced plans to establish an Ogbomoso centre as part of its efforts to expand access to career-focused and technology-driven education. The university operates its global campus in Ibadan.

The institution also received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2026 to commence three postgraduate programmes, Master of Business Administration, Master of Information Technology and Master of Public Administration — for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The opening ceremony will hold at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the American Open University Nigeria Ogbomoso Centre, High School Area, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
