I use this medium to give kudos to the governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, for the speed and precision with which he has again presented the 2017 Budget tagged ‘Golden Jubilee budget to the state House of Assembly.
The lion share in terms of capital versus recurrent expenditure ratio of 63:37 is unique and legendary in this side of the world where greater emphasis has always been placed on recurrent expenditure.
My appeal goes to the state Assembly to ensure early passage of the fiscal responsibility bill to enable early commencement of its implementation so as to avoid the usual draw back associated with the federal level.
No one needs to be reminded of the eloquent testimony and pat on the back given by the Speaker of the state Assembly to the governor. He said the outgoing year’s budget had almost run full stream already.
However, I observe a missing link. A particular area of the state has been suffering age-long neglect. The people had variously made representations by physical interface and through the mass media.
The sorry state of the Ijagemo Community, Iba/Ojo LCDA on the Ikotun-Ijegun-Ijagemo axis has been on the front burner for some time now. Various state Chief Executives and their respective agencies had made heart-warming promises which had hitherto given hope to the teeming inhabitants. This hope and expectations were dashed when the area did not get any mention in the budget proposal.
I, therefore, use this opportunity to plead with His Excellency and the honourable members to show compassion and insert the Ijagemo road project in the budget before it is eventually passed.
Ijagemo people are asking for equity and equal opportunity to exist in the state that prides itself as a mega city.
The state, to the best of our knowledge, includes Ijagemo, after all.
