Since Governor Akinwumi Ambode assumed the mantle of leadership in Lagos State in 2015, he has been doing his very best to ensure that Lagos works. While it may be too early to celebrate him, it is also not out of place to say that he has started on a good note.
I would however like to bring his attention to the plight of the people of Ewu Owa in Agura/Gberigbe area of the state. We lack good roads, potable water, and good schools. There is no police post in Ewu Owa, only in Imota, and there is no hospital. This is making life very difficult for residents of the area. When members of the community visited Alausa, the seat of government some time ago, they came back with the information that the land that should have been used to build a public hospital had been sold off by landgrabbers, known as Omo Onile.
This should not however deter the Lagos State government from putting infrastructure in place in Ewu Owa, because the Omo Onile are not superior to the government and people of Lagos State.
Our primary schools are dilapidated, the teachers are discouraged, and primary school pupils are forced to bring their own chairs to school. I believe that if the governor undertakes a tour of Ewu Owa, he will be in a position to understand the things that we are going through. We want our area to be as beautiful, if not more beautiful than Ikeja, which hosts the Governor’s Office.
It is my sincere hope that Governor Ambode will build good schools in Ewu Owa so that our children can remember him with pride in future.
