The Honourable Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has received the report of the Interim Management Committee on the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, (MAN) Oron. Disclosing this to the Nigerian Tribune exclusively, the Rector of the academy, Commodore Emma Effedua (rtd), who is also a member of the IMC explained that the committee saved the academy from being delisted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
According to Effedua, “ the job of the IMC is to restructure the academy in terms of curricular administration. The IMC also helped re-organise the academy because the IMO was already trying to delist the academy from its White List.
“Since the re-structuring commenced, the IMO has even visited the academy. Also, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) has also visited us, including the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safey Agency (NIMASA).
“The IMC submitted its report to the Honourable Minister of Transportation last Thursday. The IMC had to call on stakehodlers to come and salvage the situation of the academy because things were almost getting out of hand before we came in.”
